Welcome to 1920s Wiki

Welcome to the 1920s Wiki page. We hope to slowly grow to be a useful resource on the 1920s for students, fans, and the curious. This site is maintained by me, Rod Spellman, an instructor at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. I teach a course called Historical Perspectives, which serves as both the second required first-year writing course and as an introduction to the History discipline. While Historical Perspectives is taught by many teachers about many eras, my course focuses on the literature and history of the 1920s (Excess and Despair is the course name). And while I maintain this wiki, my students do most of the work on it.

This wiki is being designed with two purposes:
1. To help my students.
2. To provide basic information about the 1920s to the public.

I hope that this site helps my students to work on their writing with a public audience in mind, to consider the organization necessary to handle all the information in even one decade of history, to think more concretely about intellectual property and ownership of ideas, and to leave a legacy of useful information for future students.

I hope that this site also acts as a useful tool for anyone interested in the 1920s and that we can maintain the standards of academic research and inquiry suitable for first-year writing students.

(Wiki started Fall 2011 with ENG 151-007.)
